vintage illustrations

26 Feb

i am a sucker for a vintage book with good illustrations. i love the retro colors, shapes, scenery… everything. my library has an ongoing book sale and i have actually found some really good old books – each only $.50. a few months ago i found an old edition of the little engine that could and fell in love with these pages.

milk & sweetsi’m going to find some antique frames and hang these in my kitchen or in my little (teensy-tiny) dining area. so sweet!

along with my embroidered knitting bag find from last week, i also spotted, and grabbed, james beard’s 1949 the fireside cook book, which is chock-a-block full of nostalgic illustrations by alice and martin provensen. a flickr search of their work explains why i had to have this book, even if the binding is falling apart.

my only dilemna is this: should i take the book apart and use the illustrations in projects or continue to spend hours-on-end pouring over the recipes with their charming illustrations?
